CBN FOUNDER PAT ROBERTSON HONORED AS A 'LEGEND'
Pat Robertson, CBN founder and media pioneer, received the prestigious LEGEND Award Thursday at the 49th Annual ICVM Crown Awards Ceremony at NRB's Media Convention in Nashville, TN.
In his acceptance speech, Dr. Robertson encouraged Christian filmmakers in every crew position to strive to achieve "innovation, integrity, and excellence." And to never forget that "Jesus Christ our Lord is the author and finisher of all of our works."
"Pat Robertson has been a true powerhouse and pioneer in Christian media for decades," said Troy Miller, NRB CEO, "demonstrating the unlimited impact that faithful Christian communicators can have over a lifetime and inspiring younger generations to pursue that same degree of excellence. We congratulate him on receiving this well-deserved honor.”
Though Robertson has seen incredible accomplishments as a religious leader, philanthropist, educator, businessman, author, presidential candidate, and more, this award honors his amazing lifelong work in broadcasting and content creation. The tiny station he started in 1960 became the worldwide ministry known today as the Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN), now seen in 200 countries and 70 languages. Its flagship program, The 700 Club, spreads the latest news and gospel message daily.
He also started International Family Entertainment in 1990, which grew quickly into a network that re-shaped the landscape of children’s and family television. It started as The Family Channel, and when he sold it, became ABC Family and Freeform TV.
Paul Sirmons, president of the non-profit ICVM representing over 2,500 Christian filmmakers around the world, added, "For his impact on Christian filmmakers over the past 60-plus years, Pat Robertson has earned legend status in our industry. He has very likely created more jobs for Christian filmmakers, TV workers and documentarians than anyone else on the planet, and even today he trains up the next generation of Christian storytellers as head of Regent University."
Pat Boone was the first recipient of the LEGEND Award last year, honoring his many years of work in television and film, including the ground-breaking movie THE CROSS AND THE SWITCHBLADE.
The ICVM Crown Awards have been honoring the best in indie Christian film, TV and documentaries for 49 years. Entries are now being taken on Film Freeway for ICVM's 50th Annual Crown Awards. Those winners will be announced at next year's NRB Media Convention in Orlando, Fl.
